Lawn Care Basics

  • -Keep the SOD moist for the first few weeks. Adjust the watering times so that the SOD is wet, but not soppy. Allowing the SOD to dry out will stop root growth and cause the rolls to shrink.

-WATER AT LEAST 3 TIMES PER DAY FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS. FOR EXAMPLE, WATER AT

    7:00 AM

    11:00 AM

    5:00PM

-IN TEMPERATURES OVER 90 DEGREES, WATER 4 TIMES PER DAY. FOR EXAMPLE, WATER AT

    7:00 AM

    11:00 AM

    4:00 PM

    7:00 PM

-For lawns without an irrigation system, we recommend a Frogeye Sprinkler. Water each area for 12 minutes with areas overlapping.

-Mow about 10 to 14 days after laying the SOD.

-Shut off the water 24-36 hours prior to mowing.

-Set the mower to the highest blade setting.

    -Mow diagonally across the seams.

-Water immediately and continue watering once per day for a week. Gradually reduce watering to every other day.

-Every third day watering can be achieved in the spring and fall, but with eastern Colorado winds and heat expect to water more during the summer months.

-After the first mowing you can apply a starter fertilizer. Your garden shop should have this available.

-Winter watering is recommended to prevent lawn mites and winter kill.

-Water on a warm day when there has been no measurable snow for 2 weeks.

-Stop weeds and annual grasses by applying pre-emergent weed control in the early spring and fall.

-We recommend using a professional for chemical applications.
